Mr 3 and I are suffering from the sniffles so we are home resting. No shopping, no chores, just resting, watching tv, reading together and having the occassional cuddle too.
I don't rest well at all. I run full steam ahead day after day, week after week, month after month until I get sick, I guess that's my body's way of yelling at me to STOP!
What I really need to do, is learn to take time out every now and then. Not just TV time at the end of each day, but time out on a regular basis to do whatever it is that I enjoy doing OR to simply REST.
Keri Wyatt Kent (an author from the USA) has a friend who has 'green marker days'. She suggests that we women (mums) grab our calendar and a green marker. The green marker is used to put a cross through the days - or even just through the hours- that we have specifically set aside to rest and take time out. These times are not-negotiable; that is, they are booked in, firm appointments with ourselves. If someone needs us, we schedule some other time to help them - NOT our time!
This is something that most of us are not very good at isn't it? We think we need to be available for our families all the time. Are you really available for your family or do you just operate on 'auto-pilot'? If you take regular time out to be refreshed and renewed you will be caring for yourself and your families much more effectively and lovingly.
I used to think 'time out' was such a selfish use of time, but now I believe it's essential; even God took time out to rest!
Hebrews 4:9-11
"So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest."
Now, where are my markers?
Blessings and Love
