The boys and I read the story of Noah again last night (Genesis chapters 6-9) and I couldn’t help thinking about Mrs Noah. Her husband is told to build an ark (an odd request really, especially to ask of a man who was over 600 years old at the time) and he goes about following God’s requests without question; Genesis 6:22, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”

I wonder how much Mrs Noah did to help Noah? Did she help him collect and pack food and supplies? Did she pack anything to make a long trip more comfortable? Did she question God’s plan or did she too obey without question?

I had never really thought about this before but imagine living with family members and hundreds of different animals while it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Where did everybody go to the bathroom? Did they get to wash up every few days? Did the ark get smelly; noisy; hot; cold? It can’t have been like living at a hotel or even in the comforts of home.

As I read with the boys, I wondered if Mrs Noah (or any of the others) complained at all. Did she get fed up and cry or moan or get grumpy like most of us do?

God chose Noah because he was the only righteous man on earth. God asked Noah to do something and he did so without question.

When God asks us to follow His call, do we do so happily and immediately or do we moan and try to get out of it?

The fact is that sometimes God asks us to do things that may not be comfortable or easy but He gives us what we need to get the job done and He is there for us as we follow instructions from start to finish.

So my challenge today is: will we listen to God and follow like Noah or will we moan, complain and run the other way?  Something to think about!

Blessings and Love,

(PS, Just having a break from Creative Kids this week, back with some ideas next week!)

Good questions! If it would have been me, I am sure I probably would have thought my husband was crazy! I've never thought about what his wife would have thought either. I think it must have been pretty smelly on the ark with all those animals.
